Give yourself goodness of millets

Give yourself goodness of millets

United Nations has declared Year 2023 as “The International Year of Millets” to raise awareness about the nutritional and health benefits of Millets. This will also help in promoting their cultivation and consumption worldwide. Millets are the climate resilient food and can help solve the food security problem specially for the developing countries.

Due to less awareness and promotion there has been a decline in the production and consumption of millets in many parts of the world. Farmer’s have started relying on other main crops like wheat/rice and this reduced the knowledge of the millets. Millets are highly adaptable to different climates and can thrive in drought-prone areas where other crops may struggle to grow. By cultivating millets, farmers can improve their resilience to climate change. They have a low carbon footprint as they require less water and fewer inputs compared to other crops. This can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the fight against climate change.

As a society we need to start focusing on how through various activities, we can raise awareness. Think of the ways to ensure easy availability of the Millets in the market and spread knowledge among consumers and farmers.
